Europe is the sixth largest continent geographically and has the third highest population. It borders Asia to the east, the Atlantic in the west, Africa in the south via the Mediterranean and the Arctic in the north.
The continent is one of the wealthiest in the world and is the centre of the West and Western Democracy. With great civilisations of Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire, the birth of Democracy is easy to see. Two of the biggest wars in the modern era, World War 1 and World War 2, have left their mark on most of the countries in this continent.
With European countries being so close together you are never too far from a neighbour/rival and their histories are often entwined with each other. This has never been demonstrated so much, as the coming together of the EU.
Whether you’re travelling Europe on a budget or planning a trip of a lifetime, it’s all in this wonderful continent.
